WAGONS IN WORCESTERSHIRE

This article contains a selection of the many different types of wagons seen from time in the County.

This photograph was taken by Andrew Smith in July 1987 and show the sidings behind Worcester Shrub Hill with a full complement of wagons and this interesting ZTO class Guards Van No.DB 951675. The red Railfreight livery wagons behind are class HEA coal wagons, the one on the right being No.361858.

Wagon

This ZBA 'Rudd' class wagon No. DB 972422 sat in splendid isolation at Worcester Shrub Hill for at least six years before being removed in 2010. This photograph was taken by Andrew Smith on 23rd August 2007. Another photograph of it appears on the 2006 Worcester Shrub Hill visit page.

Bass waogn

This unidentified 'Bass' class wagon spent many years as one of the few occupants of the sidings behind Worcester Shrub Hill Station. It was eventually removed in November 2010. This photograph was taken by Andrew Smith on 31st January 2008.

This German wagon No.DB 466 7 049-7 was photographed at Worcester Shrub Hill in the consist of a Round Oak to Cardiff loaded wagons train on 21st September 2007. Photograph taken by Andrew Smith.

On 22nd January 2011 MHA 'Coalfish' two-axle Open Box Wagon No.394247 was in the sidings behind Worcester Shrub Hill Station presumably in connection with the doubling of part of the track between Worcester and Oxford. Photograph taken by Andrew Smith.

OBA 'Bass' two-axle dropside Open wagon No.110474 in the middle of a train of mixed types of wagon leaves the yard after a brief stop at Worcester. EWS class 66 diesel locomotive No.66020 had charge of the train which was heading towards the direction of Droitwich Spa. Photographed by Andrew Smith on the morning of Sunday 1st May 2011.

This is a type MRA(C) Side-Tipping Ballast Wagon No.501172 which works as part of a set of similar wagons (No.501173 is on the right hand side) and was photographed by Andrew Smith in the yard behind Worcester Shrub Hill Station on 1st May 2011.

Wagon HTA No.310396

HTA wagon No.310396 was photographed whilst stopped in the yard at Worcester Shrub Hill on 2nd August 2011. It was in the consist of train code No.4E66, Margam to Redcar empty coal hoppers, which unusually had been routed through Worcester instead of the more direct route via Spetchley. The train engine, class 66 diesel locomotive No.66098, was held (for over forty minutes) at the signals opposite the box at Rainbow Hill, about a quarter of a mile from the station. MLA wagon No.503114

Type MLA 90 tonne Open Box Wagon No.503114 at Evesham Station on track renewal work on 17th August 2011. The class 66 diesel diesel locomotive on the right of the photograph is No.66111 and the second wagon in the consist is type JNA No.NLU 29114.

OCA wagon at Newland

OCA 'Bass' type 2-axle dropside open wagon No.112103 at Newland on the Worcester and Hereford Railway in the consist of an engineering train conveying metal sleepers for a track relaying project. Photograph taken by Andrew Smith on 1st April 2012.

JNA wagon at Newland

On the same project as the OCA wagon (above) the ballast was conveyed in Network Rail JNA NLU 90 tonne open box wagons. No.29135 was photographed approaching the level crossing at Newland. Photograph taken by Andrew Smith on 1st April 2012.
