Class 143 Diesel Multiple Units

CLASS 143 DIESEL MULTIPLE UNITS

During 1985/86 twenty-five (25) (Nos.143001-25; later re-numbered to 143601-25)(car Nos.55642-66 and 55667-91) two-car 'Pacer' diesel multiple units of class 143 were built by Walter Alexander & Co Ltd on frames supplied by Andrew Barclay Ltd of Kilmarnock. The units were based at Heaton for local services in the Tyne & Wear area. They were then transferred to Cardiff. One of the dubious benefits of rail privatisation saw the Wales & West franchise operate these totally unsuitable units to Worcester.
