INDUSTRIAL RAILWAYS AND LOCOMOTIVES OF WORCESTERSHIRE

Industrial Railway & Locomotives of Worcestershire

Compiled by Andrew Smith. This is the Society's third book in the Preliminary Handbook series, previous volumes having covered Warwickshire and West Yorkshire. The origin of this book lies in part of the text of the 1960 West Midlands Pocket Book A and subsequent amendments, supplemented by extensive research at local libraries, record offices and similar bodies as well as by personal visits to the various sites. This Preliminary Edition together with the previously published Handbooks on West Midlands and Staffordshire and the Preliminary Draft of Warwickshire provide a replacement for Pocket Book A. Most of the locomotives and systems formerly in Worcestershire are now in the West Midlands and are covered in that book. See the IRS web site for details of how to order these books at www.irsociety.co.uk

The new book on Worcestershire lists all the industrial sites and locomotives known to have been used in the County together with full details about all of the contractors who built the main line railways. There is also a complete section on numerous non-locomotive and hand worked lines as well as covering the present preserved railways in the county (n.b for the reasons above the book covers the current county not the one that existed in 1900).

The book is A5 size and contains 55 pages of text plus 8 pages of colour maps but no photographs.
